This world needs God.

I had started writing a post about my love of handbags but this is what is really on my mind right now.

On Saturday night we came home exhausted and went to bed around 11ish. Although, with daylight savings and how tired we were "ish" seems pretty accurate. Around midnight we heard a knock at the door. It was a neighbor who noticed that the window of our white car had been shot out. That's when my heart dropped and my husband called the police immediately. They said we were victim #11 just that night, they think it could have been a BB gun, and that it was probably bored neighborhood kids. Sadly they basically told us there was nothing they could do.

That night we were up pretty late a little shaken from the whole thing. My husband was up looking at apartments and condos we could move into. We own the house but the area has just gotten worse and worse. Since we got married last year we've been plotting our escape anyway, we just have way more motivation now.

Thankfully, we found a window to replace mine (white car) for only $35—sweet, and we know a guy who works on cars who offered to install it for only $25—awesome. Safelite quoted us $270 to replace the window so we saved about $200.

So last night we had it installed and it only took half an hour—great. Then we stopped at my hubs gram+paps house to clean out any extra broken glass (they have the best tools and car stuff). Pulling into the driveway my husband accidentally backed into their mailbox - 4 new scratches on my bumper. Although I truly didn't even care at that point.

Fastward an hour or so to about 10pm... as we pulled up to our house I heard my hubs yell and when we got closer I saw that now our other car (his car) had a window shot out... same damage, same side of the car... nothing stolen at all (not that we keep anything in our cars anyway). Ugh. We tried to find a replacement window ourselves (again) but his car is so new that unfortunately we are probably going to have to pay Safelite $300 (their quote) to fix it.

There are not words for how I feel right now about all this.

Thank you to my brother+sister-in-law for letting us put both cars in their garage when we needed it and for lending us their spare vehicle... little red!

Developments 4.6.10

On -of all days- Easter Sunday my mom and step-dad informed me that the day before they had rode their motorcycles up the mountain and visited The Barn where we are getting married next month. They then instructed me to sit down for what they were about to tell me. When they got to Fallingwater they saw that there were construction vehicles everywhere, the grounds were roped off, and the building was roofless! My parents spoke with a security guard who informed them that the snow from Februarys 'snow-mageddon' had damaged the roof and that it would be done in a few weeks. My mom asked specifically about our date, May 22. The guard then looked at his chart and said, "which May 22 wedding?"

Knowing that we are getting married "in a few weeks" I had a mild panic attack before I realized that I could do nothing about it on Easter Sunday. A few glasses of pinot blanc later I had almost forgotten about it. And I even slept like a baby last night, FINALLY!

Thankfully, this morning Christian contacted them to get the 411, and they said that everything is in order for our wedding and that there is in fact no other wedding scheduled on our day.

Unfortunately, we should probably still keep a close eye on this situation.

Double Booked

One of my bridesmaids is getting married 2 weeks after my wedding, June 5. I'm very excited for her wedding, it's going to be so nice! Her bridal shower is set for April 17. Yesterday, she told me that her (semi-distant) cousin, who is getting married May 1, just sent out invitations that her bridal shower is also April 17! From what I've gathered our (my friend's bridal party) invitations went out first. And they checked with the family to confirm that nothing was going on.
1st... why is this other chicks shower 2 weeks before her wedding?
2nd... who does that?
I just feel for her. Now, the family members have to decide between which to go to. That's no fun.

Awful Bridal Store Experience

So I don't even think I could begin to explain the horrible experience I've continued to have with MB Bride. To all the brides out there, do NOT go there. If it's too late then I just pray you have a much better experience then we have had. We have had every issue from incredibly rude service, over charging on a dress, to dresses coming in, in the wrong sizes and everything in between.

Thankfully, after 2+ hours of arguing with the owner this morning I finally was able to get discounts on 2 of the dresses.

I heard a few other horror-stories about that store today too. My sister found her wedding dress from there, but she will NOT be purchasing it from there after this experience. I certainly want her experience to be better then mine!

True Dress Debacle

Ha, so I guess I spoke too soon with that last blog! I thought there were issues with my bridesmaids dresses before... now I'm told that Jim Hjelm can't do the colors I chose from their swatch book. One of the associates at MB Bride called me this morning to apologize... if only they would've discovered this a month ago when they told me the colors would be fine! After I spent hours upon hours in that store debating on colors and after most of my bridesmaids put money down, got measured, etc. Wouldn't it have made sense to check if the color combo was alright BEFORE you told me "YES, WE CAN THAT!" You guys are supposed to know more about these dresses then I do! Grrrrr.

So yet AGAIN back to the drawing board. We are most likely just going to swap the colors for my Plan B scheme. But this whole thing is so not cool!

Tonight Nikki, Rachel, and I are going in and I'm telling them what's up!

Dear MB Bride & Special Occasions,
With the exception of one really nice associate who works there (Linda), I think your service stinks! If people hadn't already paid I would go elsewhere for my bridesmaids dresses. Oh and your lighting makes even beautiful people look gross.
Sincerely,
A Very Disgruntled Bride

Plan B and final color combo... Pewter / Black / Black

Dress Debacle

So on Saturday morning Tara and I went into MB Bride so she could get fitted for her bridesmaid dress for my wedding. I just found out the orders need be in for all 5 of my bridesmaids by next week, yikes! Good news is that the girls only have to put half down to order them, bad news is that they can't order any of them til all 5 girls come in, get measured, and put half down.

It would've been great if they would have told me the last time I went in that they needed ordered by like now!

So please ladies, get to MB Bride as soon as you can so they can measure you! I'm so sorry for the rush and for this expense coming during the Christmas season.

Developments 10.31.09

Less than 7 months to go and today we found out that our photographer booked over us. Now we have to go hunting for a new one. We spent a long time doing research on photographers that met our (outrageous, ha) standards... being designers/photographers makes us so picky! So now we don't have one. grrrrrrrrr.

Back to the Drawing Board

So we lost our reception venue and as it stands we have nowhere to get married. Back to the drawing board... :'(
